When my daughter was approaching 6 months I really started to think a lot about solid foods. My husband and I would typically eat out or order in most of the time so cooking wasn’t my forte. I knew that our daughter couldn’t just “eat whatever we were eating” because of that so I really had to buckle down and look for more nutritious options.
We knew we wanted to do Baby-Led Weaning because of the numerous benefits, but were also open to purees since that’s how we were started on solids. After receiving the OK from the pediatrician that we were good to start solids, I found some great Instagram accounts that I use to this day to prepare nutritious meals for my baby girl! Not only that, they’re incredibly informational about what to expect with solid food and how to avoid picky eating.
This post is all about the 5 best solid food Instagram accounts you should follow ASAP.
1. Solid Starts
If you’ve ever researched Baby-Led Weaning you have probably come across Solid Starts. It was founded by a regular mom of a picky eater and her Instagram following has grown to over 1 million in just a few years. And for good reason! She now has a team of doctors, nutritionists, allergists, and SO many more who provide thoroughly researched information about solid foods for babies.
The Solid Starts Instagram is jam-packed with useful tips on Baby-Led Weaning. If you need more than that, there’s plenty more information on their website, which includes an All Access Pass you can purchase. I bought it myself and swear by it. The recipes alone were worth it to me.
There’s even a Solid Starts app you can download, which is essentially a food database. You can use it to track foods and read about how to best serve a certain food to your baby based on age. Overall, Solid Starts is an excellent place to start if you’re looking for something comprehensive and want to try Baby-Led Weaning.
2. Feeding Littles
Feeding Littles is one of the best solid food Instagram accounts out there. With a following of over 1 million as well, they provide extremely helpful tips when starting solids. For babies, their focus is on how to self-feed and for toddlers there’s an emphasis on how to prevent and manage picky eating.
Feeding Littles also offers affordable, helpful online courses if you’re looking to dive deeper into self-feeding or managing picky eating. In addition, there are plenty of free recipes available right on their Instagram page, one of my favorites being the pour and cook slow cooker chicken recipes. Who doesn’t love a slow cooker recipe? So many helpful pieces of advice from Feeding Littles!
3. Zayne’s Plate
Zayne’s Plate is a page I came across recently and shortly after became obsessed. Like most other child meal pages, it was started by a regular mom who loves to cook. Simone, is a cookbook author and a mother of 5 who strives to offer her kids a variety of different foods.
Her recipes are safe for babies 6 months and older but as usual, make sure to be careful with common allergens until you have safely introduced them. Zayne’s Plate is perfect if you’re looking for new meal ideas that are well-rounded, nutritious and also super easy to make. I get hungry just scrolling through this page! With such a broad variety of meal ideas, you probably won’t even make the same thing twice. So delicious.
4. Baby Foode
If you’re looking to start solids with purees, Baby Foode is a great resource. To get the full recipes of stage 1 and stage 2 purees you’d have to visit the website (here) which have always been easy to make in my experience.
Purees are perfect if you’re planning to introduce solids before 6 months. If you have the time, making them at home is so much cheaper than buying them in the store. You also know everything that’s going into the food and can also freeze some of it for later! That’s what we did before we transitioned into baby-led weaning at 6 months.
Aside from purees, there are plenty of other recipes, including baby-led weaning recipes. Even cute holiday meal ideas that your little one will love! I love Baby Foode and it’s a perfect page if you’re also looking for quick and easy recipes.
5. BLW Meals
BLW Meals is a pediatrician, dietician, and feeding therapist approve resource for solid foods. They also have an app (download here) that includes over 350 recipes that are safe for your little one from 6 months! You honestly can’t beat it. I love having my print-out recipes but being able to have them everywhere you go is a huge plus.
You’ll find so much useful information on their page about solids including how to best prepare food depending on age. Their highlights section also includes babies at various different ages eating. This is amazing so you can have an idea of what to expect at meal time with your baby!
6. Kids Eat In Color
Kids Eat In Color is an amazing solid food Instagram account to follow if you’re looking for meal plans and guidance on picky eating. Children are always growing and developing. So even if your 9 month old is a great eater now, he or she may start to prefer certain foods over others as they get older.
Having the knowledge that Kids Eat In Color provides you can be invaluable. You can learn to present food in such a way that is more approachable and can prevent picky eating in the long run. That’s just a snippet of what you can learn from this page for no charge at all. Definitely a must-have especially for first-time moms!
